Trail details
Description Locarnese National Park Project: Lake and mountain

This panoramic high-altitude excursion, between water, earth and sky, will take you from the shores of Lake Maggiore to the mountains in Ronco s/Ascona, thus letting you discover one of the most amazing characteristics of the Locarnese National Park Project: diversity! After driving to the suggestive village center of Purera or Porera, the grandest mountain in Ronco, where there are ancient buildings dating between 1643 and 1670, you will continue on foot along the forest road towards Pozzuolo. Here, you will find the sixteenth-century Oratory of the Virgin of Pozzuolo (1250m), restored in 1990, leading to the site where a large fire occurred a few years ago. The road ends just below Cason. You will return following the same route, or the path above the Oratory. This excursion is ideal for the summer and winter.

Possibilities for catering
In the Monti di Ronco area there are several typical “grotti".

Safety advices
Mountain equipment, clothing and shoes are strongly recommended.

Signalization
Driving from Porto Ronco, you will take Via Ronco to the village of Ronco s/Ascona. From here, you will follow Via Livurcio to the crossing with Via Patrizia, from where you will get to Via ai Monti and after a few kilometers to the village center of Purera or Porera. At the end of the carriage road over the hamlet there is an ample parking lot. You will then proceed along the forest road (footpath) towards Pozzuolo and Cason, returning along the same route.
